As I type this the wind is howling from the south-south east and it's absolutely pissing rain. It sounds like my roof is about to fly off. Unfortunately it's also about 8 degrees outside, and around 2 at the top of Thredbo. Boo-urns!!
I went for a drive yesterday and took a look at how the man made snow on Front Valley is holding up. It's been raining and warm for at least a couple of days now and it has really affected the cover, or at least, what cover there was. The whales themselves seem to be holding up ok but all the residual stuff that was on the ground between them is looooong gone. It all looks a bit sad really. It was raining pretty hard while I was there.
Unfortunately it looks like it could be a slow start to the season. I can't see anything particularly good on the horizon for snow, and even The Frog's forecast on snowatch.com.au is looking pretty abysmal for the next couple of weeks at least.
So once again, we may need some of this action:
in sacrifice to Ullr to get some of this action:
Get sacrificing people!

Hey Wang,
ReplyDeleteNow im no weather expert but this week i have seen the rain approach Canberra from the coast in, it alwasy comes from West to East, whats the go with that?
It's just due to the position of the low off the east coast. It's directing easterly winds right into us and taking a lot of moisture with it. Usually you'd see the low much further south which would result in south to west winds.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a lot of rain today but I reckon the South Coast would be getting hammered right now. Surf would be big too, and probably onshore slop.
The surf is definitely big. I'm south of Wollongong, and it's already a solid 10+ ft. at open beaches and south swell magnets. It has been slowly building since yesterday morning, and I have my bets that it's gunna keep gettin bigger for a few hours yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Wang!
Well it still hasn't hit Sydney yet. Supposed to at 10:30am this morning, turned out to be a perfect autumn day....go figure!
ReplyDeleteLets hope the temp and humidity starts to drop again and they can fire the guns up again this week, would be nice to have a turn on opening weekend!
Hmmm...I'm bringing my mtbike as back up for the long weekend! Don't want to sound all mopey and pessimistic - just being a realist....when it comes, it'll come! Until then, we can think about moving to Europe?!??!! sMArti.
