It was windy as hell and wet and not all that cold, and then.... snow. And a fair bit of it - the biggest dump of the year if you can believe the resorts. Thredbo are reporting 20cm this morning and Perisher 17cm. Just judging from the cams I think I believe them - the Mt P cam shows a massive different between yesterday morning and now. I hate to say it, but Frog got this one wrong. The system proved much colder than expected, with snow in the village at Thredbo and even reports of snow falling on the hills around Jindy (definite report from the hills above Kalkite). There was nary a lone snowflake on the Frog forecast yesterday. Well, even the best can't get the weather right 100% of the time.
In another interesting story, Thredbo lost power yesterday and then the hotel's generator blew up, so they were without power for quite a while. The lifts had to shut down because of the threat of lightning. It really was a day of crazy weather.
The official Spencer's Creek snow depth is a whopping 4cm, but I think that reading was taken before yesterday's slightly unexpected dump.
Blue Cow is opening this weekend and that should include Zali's as well, so come on down and you just might see me cruising around Blue Cow on Sunday.
