That's right - the Snowy River totally frozen over. Ice had formed around the small bushes near the waters edge creating a weird iceberg affect. Judging by the cams I think the 5cm mark was hit overnight... maybe more. Neither Thredbo or Perisher have reported a total snowfall yet but I'll be interested to see what they say. I'm thinking yes. The BOM are predicting blizzards above 1000m, Frog has upgraded his forecast for today and tomorrow, Weatherzone are also keen on low level snow. It's on!

Judging by the cams it hasn't started snowing yet, but it looks like Perisher have been able to keep the snowguns going. Hot tip - V8 this weekend is my bet.

It was a damn cold morning in Jindy so I figured I might get to see them in action and I did indeed.

The car thermometer said -5c when I arrived in Perisher. They were pumping out a hell of a lot.

Not that it hasn't snowed - it has, and snow showers are still passing through - but it really isn't producing much in the way of settled snow and cold temps. My prediction of 15 to 20cm is looking WAY off.

I just had to go up the mountains for a look this afternoon. As my previous post "from the field" suggested, I didn't have any luck. I drove to Charlottes, then back to Guthega via the Link Rd and then home and I think I spotted one snow flake falling from the sky somewhere between Spencer's Creek and Charlottes. It was mostly just rain rain rain.

The BOM are saying yes. Their forecast this morning called for snow above 1500m late today and overnight.

The current conditions are touch and go. As at 9.30am it was 0.7c at Baw Baw, 3.4c at Buller and 3.3c at Hotham. In NSW, it's 3.7c at the top of Thredbo.

The forecast charts look very good for a small autumn snowfall.

The BOM are onto it, predicting possible showers above 1700m early on Monday.

In my uneducated opinion I think we'll get snow above 1700m early Monday morning but it will clear quickly. I don't think we'll see anything settle.

But before we get to that, Perisher made a big announcement this afternoon on their website. Guthega is set to open on Saturday!I like Guthega, so that's good news. Might make my Perisher debut on the weekend...So the official snow depth at Spencer's Creek is now 71.8cm.
