Right now I'm freezing my balls off - the heater just can't keep up with the rapidly decreasing temperature! Anyway, this morning I went for a drive up to Island Bend to take a few photos and I could not believe what I saw. That's right - the Snowy River totally frozen over. Ice had formed around the small bushes near the waters edge creating a weird iceberg affect. It was absolutely amazing.

Temps went way way down last night; Perisher Valley recorded an overnight low of -7.4c according to Weatherzone, which I think is the lowest so far this month. So yep, you guessed it - the snowmakers fired up big time. Judging by the cams Perisher are making snow everywhere except the Ridge, and Thredbo have had every gun they have firing. It snowed a little bit at Thredbo this afternoon (check out the cams) but it snowed properly in the southern resorts of Lake Mountain and Baw Baw this morning. The front is on it's way but the question remains - will it reach far enough north for snow to fall in NSW? The BOM are saying yes. Their forecast this morning called for snow above 1500m late today and overnight. The current conditions are touch and go. As at 9.30am it was 0.7c at Baw Baw, 3.4c at Buller and 3.3c at Hotham. The snow didn't last long in Jindy. I just went outside and all I could hear was running water. Reports of close to a foot of snow in Berridale and chains needed the full length of the Kosci Rd from Cooma. Snowy Hydro have released the latest Spencer's Creek depth reading. It now sits at 147.7cm, a jump of 32.7cm from the 115cm it was sitting at last Thursday. What a fantastic day!I broke the longest unforced mid-winter skiing drought in my life (1 month 5 days, I think) with a trip to Selwyn with my fiance. I'm sooo glad I did. One, it was great fun and two, cruising the gentle slopes of Selwyn made me want to ski more! Just what I needed..The goodness started on the drive. We've had a slight decline in the Spencer's Creek depth. Last week the Snowy Hydro reading was 121.2cm. This week it's dropped a whopping 2.7cm to read 118.5cmThis season is really starting to look similar to 2008. Pre-season dump, meltage, quick jump in depth, slight plateau at the end of July...My gut feeling prior to the season was that we'd have a similar season to the one we had in 2005.

This system produced a bit more cold air than I think most people predicted. Snow has settled to lake level on the eastern side of Lake Jindabyne and it fell in town over night. Snowy Hydro have updated their Spencer's Creek snow depth, which was nice of them. But before we get to that, Perisher made a big announcement this afternoon on their website. Guthega is set to open on Saturday!I like Guthega, so that's good news. Might make my Perisher debut on the weekend...So the official snow depth at Spencer's Creek is now 71.8cm. That's up 26.8cm from last week's reading.
